elena victoria's performance, Chair with a View, reimagines the historical tradition of the Sesselträger—migrant men who carried visitors to the summit of Schafberg mountain. In a powerful subversion of this tradition, elena victoria, as a woman, took on the role of the carrier. Collaborating with her friend, Ken Asahina, she carried him on her back up the mountain, symbolizing a shift in gender roles and a new narrative for this historical practice.
As they reached the peak, an old chair from the Sesselträger era awaited them. She gently lowered Ken, and together they embraced, hand in hand, reflecting on the journey and the bonds formed through their shared effort. In a poignant conclusion, elena victoria took her place in the chair, capturing the spirit of Art Circle International—a space where artists come together to support, engage, and exchange ideas, while rethinking historical and cultural narratives.
