Set on stone
Performance at Falkensteinkirche with Frottage Technique
Austria, 2024
Human history has often been told through images etched in stone, reshaped and reinterpreted across millennia. Our species has named, analyzed, and conceptualized other species and our surroundings—through science, history, and particularly through our own human lens. But what if we weren't the sole storytellers? What if we examined the narratives from other perspectives—the traces left behind by other species, elements, and matter? Could the story of the planet be told differently, not solely through human understanding, but through time itself and in ways that transcend the human mind?
Inspired by the legend of pilgrims purifying themselves in the natural stone grotto of Falkensteinkirche, elena victoria embarks on a journey through the Schleifstein, documenting its textures, history, and the passage of countless pilgrims. Using the frottage technique on paper, she captures a silent dialogue with nature, seeking to express the pilgrim's story through the language of the earth—etched into the traces left upon the stone.
